Brian Simmons Appointed Camp Wawona Director

Updated: 12 minutes ago

The Central California Conference (CCC) is pleased to announce that,

effective March 16, Pastor Brian Simmons will assume the role of Camp Director for Camp

Wawona, underscoring the Conference’s renewed commitment to revitalize facilities,

strengthen youth outreach, and deepen spiritual experiences in nature.

“Brian grew up in the Central California Conference and served as a camp counselor

for multiple summers,” said Vice President for Ministries, Anil Kanda. “Camp

Wawona was one of the places where he gave his heart to Jesus. He has a real

passion for camp ministry, and we’re excited to see how his leadership will help

Camp Wawona operate at its full potential.”

A Passion for Camp Ministry

Simmons credits Camp Wawona with shaping his spiritual growth. In the early 2000s, he

guided youth in rock climbing, wilderness survival, and team-building activities, all while

pointing them to Christ. Over the years, he has served congregations in California and

Oregon. During these roles, he oversaw strategic planning for congregations, coordinated

outreach projects, and facilitated major church remodels. He also gained construction and

mechanical experience through various mission projects, renovation efforts, and personal

hands-on work—skills that will support Camp Wawona’s operational improvements.

“It’s a privilege to return to a place so central to my own spiritual journey,” Simmons

said. “I’m passionate about helping people encounter Jesus through His creation

and His Word, and Camp Wawona is a special setting to make that happen.”

Collaborating Roles: Camp Wawona Director & Summer Camp Director

While Pastor Brian Simmons focuses on Camp Wawona’s operations, Delinda Hamilton

carries out her responsibilities as Summer Camp Director for the Central California

Conference. Each director’s roles complement the other, ensuring a vibrant, well-managed

camp for both daily operations and spiritually engaging summer sessions.

• Brian Simmons, Camp Wawona Director: Manages day-to-day operations, oversees

facility upgrades, and provides strategic vision and staff coordination.

• Delinda Hamilton, Summer Camp Director, Senior Youth and Young Adult Ministries Director: Develops youth discipleship programming, organizes outdoor activities, and designs Christ-centered events during the summer camp season.

“Brian will work with the operations board, administration, and local groups to

ensure Camp Wawona is both functional and welcoming,” Kanda said. “Delinda’s

role centers on the summer camp programming itself. Together, they’ll form a

strong team to grow ministry in this beautiful outdoor environment.”

Looking to the Future

The Conference has not had a full-time Camp Director in several years, making Simmons’

arrival a pivotal step forward. CCC also plans to hire a hospitality and maintenance staff to

ensure Camp Wawona runs smoothly and provides an exceptional experience for visitors of

all ages.

“Wawona is undergoing a facelift,” Kanda added. “Some of these projects have been

on the drawing board for nearly 20 years, and we’re hopeful Brian’s leadership will

bring them to life so more people can experience fellowship, fun, and faith here.”

Prayer Requests

Vice President Kanda invites church members and friends to pray for Camp Wawona’s

ongoing needs, including:

Summer Camp Recruitment: For a dedicated staff and open hearts among participants.

Safety and Funding: For safe, meaningful programs and adequate resources to maintain

and improve the camp.

Facility Projects: For smooth progress on construction and improvements to enhance

every visitor’s experience.

“We believe God has great plans for Camp Wawona,” Kanda said. “With Brian’s

operations leadership and Delinda’s summer camp focus, we look forward to seeing

how the Lord will use this team to reach our youth and constituents across Central

California.”

Welcome, Pastor Brian Simmons! May this new chapter of ministry at Camp Wawona

continue the legacy of spiritual growth, adventure, and community that has shaped so

many lives in the Central California Conference.
